One Day Visit to Kings Lynn - Clifton House and Historic Kings Lynn
Friday 06 October 2017

In the morning we shall visit Grade 1 listed Clifton House - a medieval merchant’s house in the heart of the town, published in Invitation to View, it retains an amazing series of historic interiors dating from the 13th to the 18th centuries.  With two tiled floors from the later 13th century (the largest in-situ tiled floors in any secular building in Britain); the 14th-century vaulted undercroft; the five-storey Elizabethan tower and a series of rooms created by the architect Henry Bell in 1700. A very interesting private property recommended to me by a number of members.  Usually only on certain Fridays until September, I have been able to secure the morning of Friday, 6th October for a guided group tour with one of the owners, Dr Simon Thurley and Dr Anna Keay.  (Unfortunately, I am advised Clifton House is not suitable for people with impaired mobility due to the number of stairs.)

We shall have time for free-flow lunch and we shall meet at 2.30pm for the 1½ hour guided-walking tour, Historic Lynn.  Travel will be by coach from our usual pickups (Holt/Cley/Fakenham) and the cost is £32.00 per person.
